Argentine President Javier Milei reiterated his strong criticism of socialist models on Wednesday, attributing them to “deep economic and humanitarian crises.” During his address at the World Economic forum in Davos, Switzerland, Milei cited venezuela as a prime example of what he termed the “aberrant consequences of statism,” capturing the attention of global leaders and academics.
Milei began his speech by quoting american economist Thomas Sowell: ”We must never forget the words of Thomas Sowell about socialism, which he recognized as sounding very nice, but whose downside is that it always ends badly, horribly badly.” This quote set the tone for a presentation focused on defending free-market capitalism and criticizing interventionist models.
Milei argued that beyond the “disasters” of the 20th century, Venezuela represents the most recent and dramatic case of economic and social collapse under a socialist government.”We see the aberrant damage caused in Venezuela,and not only by an 80% drop in its GDP,but even worse considering the establishment of a bloody narco-dictatorship whose terrorist tentacles have spread throughout our American continent,” he stated.
