Minister of Labor, Hassan Shehata, confirmed that the Ministry will send a periodic letter to the labor directorates in the governorates, immediately after the Eid al-Fitr holiday, to follow up and circulate to all private sector companies and establishments to implement the decision of the National Wage Council to raise the minimum wage for the private sector to 6,000 pounds instead of 3,500 pounds, as of Next May.

The Minister explained – in a special statement to the Middle East News Agency – that according to this circular, the compliance of private sector establishments with the Council’s decision will be strictly monitored, in implementation of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003, regarding the “minimum wage,” thanking business owners for their cooperation with the government and workers. In order to issue this decision, which will contribute to increasing production at work sites.

The minister pointed out that the private sector is an essential partner with the ministry in its programs, and this cooperation reflects the government’s interest in empowering this sector in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, pointing out that the state provided a suitable environment to attract local and foreign investment, and then the private sector implemented major projects that provided thousands of job opportunities. This was reflected in increased production and the ability of the private sector to increase wages.

Shehata pointed out that the decision of the National Wages Council comes in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to provide more care, protection and support for workers and to strengthen working relations between both parties of the production process, employers and workers. It also confirms the keenness to improve the worker’s living life and create a decent work environment. This is reflected in increased production.

The Minister of Labor said: “During this period, we are witnessing an unprecedented social dialogue between the three working parties, including the government, business owners and workers, in order to formulate a work environment that achieves more balance, justice, and common interests, and to consolidate the culture of rights and duties among all parties,” calling on workers to continue working. In all production sites to support the national economy and continue building the new republic.
