Mitski Announces New Album, Inspired by Shirley Jackson’s Haunting Worlds
Mitski’s upcoming album, set for release on February 27 via Dead Oceans, draws heavily from the unsettling atmospheres of horror author Shirley Jackson. The record is described as a “rich narrative” centered on a reclusive woman who finds freedom within the confines of her home, but faces judgment outside of it. The project’s aesthetic is also influenced by the documentary gray Gardens, which chronicles the lives of Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Edith Bouvier Beale, living in a dilapidated mansion.
