Moby Announces New Ambient Album, Future Quiet, Featuring Collaborations with Jacob Lusk, Serpentwithfeet, and More
Electronic music pioneer Moby will release a new ambient album,Future Quiet,on February 20,2026,via BMG.The album, a follow-up to 2023S ambient 23, draws inspiration from artists like This Mortal Coil, the Cocteau Twins, Brian Eno, and joy Division. A reworked version of his 1995 track “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die” featuring vocalist Jacob Lusk of Gabriels leads the release.
Inspiration and Influences
Moby describes Future Quiet as a reflection of his diverse musical background. “When I was growing up I played in hardcore punk rock bands, and I DJed VERY LOUD hip hop and house music and industrial music, but I also needed the refuge of quiet records like This Mortal Coil, the Cocteau Twins, Eno & Bowie’s ambient music, Gorecki, Arvo Part, etc,” he stated in a press release. He specifically cited “Song to the Siren” by This Mortal Coil and “Atmosphere” by Joy Division as key influences.
“When It’s cold I’d Like to Die” Rework
The lead single, a reimagining of ”When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die” (originally featuring Mimi Goese on 1995’s Everything Is Wrong), has gained renewed popularity due to its inclusion in the Netflix series Stranger Things, first appearing in season one and reprised in season four. Moby expressed his admiration for Jacob Lusk’s vocal talent, stating he “instantly fell in love with his voice” and spent weeks pursuing a collaboration. Pitchfork reports Moby considers Lusk’s contribution to the track “transcendent.”
Collaborations and Tracklist
In addition to Jacob Lusk, Future Quiet features vocal contributions from Serpentwithfeet, Elise Serenelle, and India Carney. The full tracklist has not yet been released,but BMG has confirmed the album is primarily instrumental.
