A Story of Redemption and Confrontation
“Silent City Driver” delves into the life of Myagmar, powerfully portrayed by A. Tuvshinbayar, a man navigating a changed world after 14 years of imprisonment. He grapples with alienation, kidney failure, and a struggle to reconnect with society.
Myagmar finds solace in caring for stray dogs and takes on the somber role of a hearse driver.Thru this work, he encounters a blind coffin maker, his daughter Saruul, and a Buddhist monk – figures who offer a path, however tentative, toward redemption.Though, the narrative takes a dark turn when Saruul falls victim to blackmail, forcing Myagmar to confront the boundaries of forgiveness and ultimately make a devastating decision.
Festival Accolades and Rising Recognition
“Silent City driver” has already garnered substantial praise on the international film festival circuit. Notably, the film secured the Grand Prix for Best Film and Best Production Design at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2024.
Furthermore,it received the Purple Mulberry award at Italy’s Udine Far East Film Festival in 2025,solidifying its position as a standout international film. This success builds upon the director’s previous work, with his 2022 film, “The Sales Girl,” winning the audience award at Udine and Best Film at the Vesoul Asian film Festival.
Mongolia’s Oscar Journey
As 2003, Mongolia has consistently submitted films for Oscar consideration. While the country is yet to receive a nomination, each submission represents a growing ambition and a dedication to showcasing Mongolian storytelling on a global stage.
