Muse’s Matt Bellamy reveals plans for ‘Black Holes & Revelations’ 20th anniversary celebration

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has confirmed that the band is in the preliminary stages of planning a celebration for the 20th anniversary of their fourth studio album, Black Holes & Revelations. While specific details remain under discussion, the band is considering both an anniversary package and the potential for special live performances of the record, which was originally released in July 2006.

The 2006 project stands as a landmark in the band’s discography, marking their second number-one album in the United Kingdom and serving as their only release to receive a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. The album saw the band established fame in the US, saw them top the bill at Reading & Leeds for the first time and become the first British band to headline the rebuilt Wembley Stadium.

Anniversary Plans and Live Sets

Speaking in a recent interview, Bellamy indicated that while management has been coordinating potential plans, the band is still finalizing the scope of the anniversary project. “I think we’re supposed to do some kind of anniversary package, and I’ve got loads of missed emails from management saying we need this, this and this,” Bellamy stated. He also noted that performing the album in its entirety is being weighed as a future possibility.

Anniversary Plans and Live Sets

Fans may see the influence of the 2006 record in the band’s current touring schedule. During their recent 2026 tour kickoff, the band included “Take A Bow,” the opening track from Black Holes & Revelations, as the encore. This integration of older material coincides with the band’s current touring cycle, which includes upcoming dates across the United Kingdom and Europe, such as performances at Manchester’s Co-op Live and London’s The O2.

A History of Archival Reissues

The band has established a pattern of revisiting their past work through extensive archival projects. In 2019, they released the Origin of Muse box set, which compiled material from their first two albums, Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry, including demos and previously unheard tracks. This was followed in 2021 by a 20th-anniversary remix of Origin of Symmetry, and in 2023, the band issued a deluxe 20th-anniversary vinyl edition of their third album, Absolution.

The band’s most recent studio album, The Wow! Signal, has been described by critics as their most consistent and satisfying album since Black Holes & Revelations.

Creative Direction and Future Touring

Beyond the potential anniversary celebrations, Bellamy has been vocal about the creative process behind the band’s recent output. In recent discussions, he described leaning into “the unknown” during the writing process, following a difficult personal period and split from his wife. He emphasized that music remains a fundamental necessity for his creative expression, stating, “I can’t live without music – that feeling came back to me on this album.”

Creative Direction and Future Touring

The band’s current touring plans also feature significant stage production elements. Bellamy mentioned plans for “building a spaceship” for their upcoming UK and European arena tour. As the band continues their tour, fans can expect further updates regarding the Black Holes & Revelations anniversary.

The band is scheduled to continue their tour through Europe and the UK this autumn, including two nights at Manchester’s Co-op Live on November 12 and 13, and two London shows at The O2 on November 15 and 16. Find tickets for those shows here.
