MUSICAL STYLE – Young people learn about traditional rhythms

Young members of Anac Analamanga will benefit from training to master traditional rhythm instruments.

The Ministry of Communication and Culture, through the National Academy of Arts and Culture (Anac), is committed to promoting the richness of traditional Malagasy music. To this end, training on traditional dance is launched today at Anac Anosy, with Jean Olivier Ramorasata as coach. This initiative offers a unique opportunity to discover iconic musical styles such as Salegy, Basesa, Batrelaky, Tsapiky, Horija and Hira gasy. Participants, who are members of Anac, will have the opportunity to explore not only dance techniques, but also the history and cultural context of each musical genre, as well as the rhythms, instruments used and basics music theory.

“Our goal is to encourage young people to get involved in the art world. We will provide them with all the necessary tools to capitalize on their culture and their talent,” underlines the manager within Anac. The training runs until March 22 and is offered free of charge to Anac members.

“We aspire to inspire young people to embrace their cultural heritage. This training will offer them the essential contacts and knowledge to showcase our culture through their talents,” adds the Minister of Communication and Culture, Augustin Andriamananoro.
