André Horta Reflects on Benfica Dream and Career Journey
In a recent appearance on the podcast Final Cut, Portuguese midfielder André Horta, currently on loan at Almería from Sporting braga, discussed his career aspirations and past experiences. The 29-year-old opened by questioning his initial thoughts upon joining Benfica, stating, ”I thoght, ‘I’m going to Benfica to do what?'”
Horta expressed his desire to play consistently, mirroring his experience at Vitória. He questioned the logic of bringing in a young player from Vitória de Setúbal to a team like Benfica, which he described as a ”tricampeã” (three-time champion). “Benfica needs to have the best,” he added,emphasizing his belief in the club’s need for top-tier talent.
The midfielder revealed a long-held ambition, stating, “I had three dreams in football: to play for Benfica, to score for Benfica, and to be champion for Benfica.”
Horta also fondly remembered a message he received from Ruben Amorim when he moved to Olympiacos. “The first message I received when I went to Olympiakos was from Ruben amorim. I wasn’t even expecting it. He congratulated me and wished me good luck.”
