Uri Farkas Steps Down as Northern Arizona Athletic Director
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- Uri Farkas has resigned from his position as teh Northern Arizona University (NAU) athletic director, the university announced on January 27, 2026.farkas’ departure comes less than a year after his promotion to the full-time role, following a period as interim director.
A Focus on Well-being
In a statement released by NAU, Farkas cited a need to prioritize his personal and family well-being as the reason for his resignation. “I will always be a strong advocate and supporter of Lumberjack Athletics and Northern Arizona University,” Farkas stated. “At this time, I need to step away and focus on my physical and mental health, as well as the overall well-being of my family. They have been my number one supporters, and I look forward to spending more time with them as I explore my next possibility.”
Farkas’ Tenure at NAU
Farkas initially assumed the role of interim athletic director in March 2025, stepping in after the retirement of Mike Marlow. He was subsequently appointed as the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics in June 2025. Prior to his leadership positions, Farkas served as the Deputy athletic Director at NAU since 2018.
Extensive Background in Collegiate Athletics
before joining Northern Arizona University, Farkas held leadership roles at several prominent universities. His career includes positions at Washington State University, the University of California, and the University of Oregon.he brought a wealth of experience to NAU when he joined the institution in 2018 as a Senior Associate Athletic Director.
