Neoenergia Promotes 2026 National Energy Efficiency Olympiad in Brazil

Neoenergia, a Brazilian subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group, is actively driving educational institution participation in the 2026 edition of the National Energy Efficiency Olympiad (ONEE), an initiative designed to promote responsible energy consumption, sustainability, and innovation among young students through gamification and educational challenges.

The ONEE is promoted by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) via its Energy Efficiency Program and coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Distributors (ABRADEE). Alongside 43 other electric utility concessionaires, Neoenergia Group distributors are participating in the program to bring energy efficiency education to students and teachers in public and private schools across Brazil.

As part of this ongoing mobilization, Neoenergia is conducting educational workshops in schools to foster a culture of safe and conscious electricity usage. These activities connect classroom learning with the real-world challenges of the global energy transition, engaging both students and educators in core concepts of efficiency, sustainability, and technological innovation.

Expanding Energy Efficiency Education Across Brazil

The National Energy Efficiency Olympiad has established itself as the largest initiative of its kind in Brazil dedicated to energy literacy. According to program data, the initiative has engaged more than 490,000 participating students across upwards of 8,500 schools spanning more than 1,000 municipalities.

Complementing the nationwide olympiad, Neoenergia inaugurated the ANEEL Energy Efficiency Museum in Brasília in partnership with ANEEL. The cultural and educational venue aims to bring the public closer to understanding the role of electricity, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

According to reports covering the launch, the museum’s creation and its initial year of operation represent an investment of approximately 5,3 million Brazilian reais by Neoenergia Brasília through the ANEEL-regulated Energy Efficiency Program. Designed primarily for students, teachers, and researchers while remaining open to the general public, the museum expects to welcome more than 28,000 annual visitors. It also features a dedicated Maker Space focused on robotics, active learning methodologies, and hands-on experimentation, designed to train roughly 13,000 participants each year.

Global Sustainability Recognition for Iberdrola

On the international stage, parent company Iberdrola has secured major recognitions validating its strategic focus on green finance and corporate sustainability. The company was named the leading corporate issuer of green, social, or sustainable bonds at the Global Capital Bond Awards 2026. Additionally, the firm was recognized as Europe’s most sustainable electricity company at the World Finance Sustainability Awards 2026.
