Continue what has been a success. The European Union, EU, has just disbursed 8.150 million euros to finance Agriculture and inclusive sectors in the center of Madagascar, where Afafi- Phase 2 is located.
The Workshop which marked its implementation took place yesterday at Carlton. In concrete terms, Afafi-2 is equivalent to an estimated total cost of 8,564,343 euros. It will be deployed in five regions: Analamanga, Itasy, Alaotra-Mangoro, Bongolava and Vakinankaratra, with 172 municipalities concerned, and 35,000 targeted households.
“This is aid to populations exposed to the impacts of the war in Ukraine following its own objectives. The continuation of the Afafi Center for four years attests that the EU is committed to the long term and is not content with a program that has expired but intends to continue what has been started,” explains Arnaud Brochard, head of cooperation at the EU delegation.
The results of Phase 1 of Afafi rather give cause for optimism for the future. 5,290 ha reforested, 3,712,000 fry produced, 103 tonnes of fish marketed, 16,737 land certificates issued, 34 public infrastructures built as part of the participatory budget with the municipalities (CSB rehabilitated, fokontany office and community site, bridge, school) , 34,744 tonnes of green charcoal produced and 53,454 improved stoves produced and marketed.
The Afafi Center is made up of four projects: Le Diabe for reforestation and environmental protection, Ampiana for fish farming, Ambioka for market gardening and poultry farming, and Profilait. “Sustainably improve the income of rural households and their food and nutritional security, particularly vulnerable households, women and children, all with the ongoing concern to preserve their natural environment.” In summary, this is the objective of the Afafi Center which is set to remain until 2028.
