New Spotify features: this is coming

Spotify mainly stands out because of its very strong algorithms. This makes it easy to learn new music, and playlists are created with exactly the right balance between music you often listen to and songs you haven’t heard in a while.

But that is not enough. Spotify feels the heat of the competition on its neck and therefore needs to innovate. The streaming service first focused on podcasts, but now more new features are on the way.

1. DJ function

Spotify watches as songs are edited by TikTokkers and then become a big hit on the video platform. Think of accelerated versions of hits, from which the artists and record companies do not see anything in return.

That’s why Spotify comes with DJ functions, reports The Wall Street Journal. Premium users will likely be able to adjust the speed of songs and share these versions with others. More complex remix features will then be reserved for a more expensive subscription that will be introduced soon.

2. Better audio

There has been talk about better audio quality for Spotify for a long time. Spotify HiFi was announced three years ago. But while other music services have long offered lossless audio, Spotify lags behind.

It is certain that better audio will come to Spotify, but in what way continues to change. Recently, ‘Music Pro’ appeared in the code of the streaming service. This may be the name of a new subscription, including music in lossless quality.

3. Translated podcasts

There are a lot of good podcasts on Spotify, but in tons of different languages. Artificial intelligence makes it increasingly easier to translate podcasts while retaining the original voices. It then seems as if the podcasters speak Dutch or English, while the original podcast is in a completely different language. Spotify works together with OpenAI for this.

Dutch is not yet available as an option, but that may not last long. However, we last heard about this feature in September, so it’s unclear what the status is.

4. Audiobooks

In addition to music and podcasts, Spotify also gets audiobooks. The feature has been available in the United States for a while now, as part of Spotify Premium. You can then listen to up to fifteen hours of books per month without paying extra. That amounts to about one book per month.

Spotify has not yet confirmed that this feature will also come to Europe, but it could hardly be otherwise. An extra book per week can be a reason for many people to take out a Spotify subscription.

Recent new features

Spotify has also recently received a pile of new features that you may not be familiar with yet. It has recently become possible to: watch video clips in the app, there is one music medium present and you can with AI playlists to make.
