The Stanley Cup playoffs are just around the corner.
It’s on Friday night NHL-Regular season has come to an end, so the playoff pairings have now been finalized.
“Battle of Florida” and duel between two original six teams
In the Eastern Conference, the Presidents’ Trophy winners New York Rangers face the Washington Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin’s team qualified for the postseason at the last minute. Read here >>>
In the “Battle of Florida” last year’s finalists Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning each other. The Panthers go into the best-of-seven series as winners of the Atlantic Division, while Tampa Bay made it into the playoffs as a wild card team.
There will also be a duel between two Original Six teams at Boston Bruins against Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs have been waiting for a series win over the Bruins since 1959.
The final pairing in the Eastern Conference is Carolina Hurricanes against New York Islanders. The teams from the Metropolitan Division met in the first round last year and the “Canes” won 4-2.
Exciting duels in the Western Conference
The Western Conference also has exciting series.
As conference winners, the Dallas Stars have to play against the reigning defending champions, the Vegas Golden Knights.
The best team in the Pacific Division, the Vancouver Canucks, competes with the Nashville Predators. The Canucks are in the playoffs for the first time since 2019/20, the Predators have reached it nine times in the last ten years.
In addition, the Winnipeg Jets take on the Colorado Avalanche. The Canadians have not made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2018/19; the “Avs” surprisingly made it past the first round as defending champions last year Seattle Kraken failed.
Last but not least, the Los Angeles Kings have to survive against the Edmonton Oilers.
