Recent Grid Collapses and causes
On January 26, 2024, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced a system-wide disturbance at approximately 12:40 hours, resulting in a total power outage across the interconnected network. Premium Times reported on the incident.
According to NISO, the disturbance was linked to the simultaneous tripping of multiple 330kV transmission lines and the disconnection of some grid-connected generating units. The guardian Nigeria provided further details on the technical issues.
These events collectively led to the system collapse.
