Friday’s Koran burning, which took place the day before the Eurovision Song Contest festivities start, was hijacked by the Palestine movement. After just over an hour, ring dancing started and anti-Israeli slogans were chanted on Gustav Adolfs torg.

– They do this because you shouldn’t listen to them. I think it’s good, says Prins, a 24-year-old from Malmö who followed the spontaneous ring dance in the square.

– Instead of getting annoyed and throwing things, they do this, he continues.

Did not pay fee

When the police summed up the day, it was noted that things went smoothly, with a few rejections and arrests. But no arrests.

The Koran burners, a man and a woman, applied for a public gathering in Rosengård on Sunday – with the aim of burning a Koran there as well.

Late on Friday evening, the police told TT that since the 320 kroner in application fee was never paid, the application will not be processed and cannot be granted either.

“Walk” on Saturday

However, the information about a gathering for Koran burning on Saturday was incorrect, police said. The people have applied to walk through Malmö on Saturday – an application that has been rejected by the police, explains press spokesperson Filip Annas.

– The police can state that the application cannot be considered a public gathering. Two people want to walk through town, and there is no talk of burning anything.

In the police’s decision, however, it appears that the persons intend to pull a Koran on a leash behind them, as well as carry Israeli flags.
