  • HMD is slowly preparing the first phone with its own logo on the back
  • But the specifications and design won’t put anyone on their ass
  • The chances of success without the Nokia logo on the back are not very high

For many years, the presence of the Finnish brand Nokia on the smartphone market was taken care of by HMD Global, which is located literally across the road. The partnership, where the legendary manufacturer provided its brand while HMD took care of production and development, seemed at first to be very beneficial for both parties. However, it is not easy to make a name for yourself in the saturated smartphone market, and despite the vehement efforts of HMD, it was not possible to return the Nokia brand to the people. Now the young company is trying to capitalize on its acquired experience and stand on its own two feet.

Same strategy, different logo

Although we’ve already seen leaks of phones with the HMD logo on the back earlier in the year, we’re now getting an even better look thanks to a new set of renders that show the upcoming device called the Pulse Pro. While we’d love to welcome a new manufacturer to try to disrupt the current market landscape, HMD is unlikely to succeed with this device. According to the renders shared by 91mobiles and supplied by the well-known leaker Onleaks, it looks like HMD is making another Nokia, but without the Nokia logo on the back.

As for the details, according to 91mobiles the phone will have a 6.56″ IPS display with a resolution of 720 × 1480 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which will be accompanied by at least 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The Unisoc T606 chipset will reportedly take care of the performance of the device, and there will also be a pair of cameras on the back – a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, while the front should boast a 50MP selfie camera.

If you were expecting a “wow” effect, you certainly won’t find it here. The specifications will probably appeal to only a minimal number of interested parties, as well as the design that has already been seen. Even the price of 179 euros (approx. 4,500 CZK with tax) probably won’t impress anyone given the relatively stiff competition. The question remains as to why HMD is trying to break into the smartphone field with the same strategy it used with the Nokia logo on the back, which obviously didn’t work.
