Two New Zealand tourists caused an uproar in Thailand. The tourist attacked a policeman and confiscated his weapon.

Reporting from ABC on Wednesday (20/3/2024), the two tourists were named Hamish Art Day (36) and Oscar Matson Day (34). they attacked an officer named Somsak Noo-iad in Phuket.

According to the investigation, Somsak officers stopped the two tourists for reckless driving. Somsak then tried to take photos and proof of identity.

It seems tourists Hamish and Oscar felt threatened. They then attacked Somsak and took his cellphone. Unmitigated, Somsak was even beaten on the side of the road.

One of the perpetrators then squeezed Somsak so he couldn’t get up. Another tourist took Somsak’s gun and pointed it at the police.

The two people ended up languishing at the police station. Not only that, their visas were revoked, they were also prohibited from entering Thailand until the investigation was completed.

The two tourists were charged with robbery, obstructing police, physical assault on police, driving without a license and bribery.

The perpetrator and his lawyer could not be reached for comment by . The perpetrator’s family admitted they were disappointed and asked that the case be handled privately.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said consulate officials had provided assistance to the families of the two arrested tourists.
