If we add to that relatively simple technology and the use of internal combustion engines, the news about the upcoming new SUV sounds great, perhaps too much for today. And indeed, there is one major catch.

The novelty will very likely not be available on the European market, Škoda is developing it primarily for India, where it will also be produced. Later, it should reach other countries as well, but it is really difficult to reach the old continent.

The Indian market is particularly important for the Czech brand, it first started importing European cars there, then added models tailor-made for the Indian customer – sedan Slavia and small SUV Kushaq. Thanks to them as well, it saw growth of 18.5% in India last year and recently celebrated 100,000 cars sold.

However, the campaign of Mladoboleslavský does not end there. In the near future, a new compact SUV based on the MQB-A0-IN platform (like the aforementioned siblings) is to be introduced, which should further boost the brand’s sales. From 2026, Škoda would like to sell 100,000 cars a year in India, and by 2030 it would like to become the best-selling European brand there and, together with other car companies of the concern, gain a five percent market share.

The automaker has already managed to publish the first trailer, in which it partially revealed the design of the bow and front lights. She also revealed that it will be a car with a length of up to four meters, as price concessions apply to such cars in India. For that reason, interested parties should look forward to an affordable price tag.

And why an SUV? The reason is simple. “It’s a key segment that makes up more than half of the market. Together with the Kushaq and Kodiaq models, we will have an even better portfolio of SUVs in India,” said Martin Jahn, member of the Škoda Auto board of directors.

With a length of under four meters, the novelty will be shorter than the current Fabia, the smallest car in the brand’s European offer. In India, it will be placed under the Kushaq model, which measures 4,225 millimeters in length, and should compete with cars such as Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet or Maruti Brezza.

The MQB-A0-IN platform has already been discussed, the car will share a number of components with the larger Kushaq model. A turbocharged liter three-cylinder will certainly appear under the hood.

Among the secrets yet to be revealed is the name of the new model. Škoda is reportedly still selecting it, as it recently invited Indian motorists to contribute their suggestions. The automaker itself came up with the names Kwiq, Kymaq, Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kosmiq and Kayaq.

Another question mark surrounds the show. According to some reports, the brand should reveal the new product this year, it could reach the market at the beginning of next year. It is also interesting that Indian Autocar previously described the upcoming SUV as a global model. In addition to India, it should also be sold in Mexico, some Southeast Asian countries and selected markets in Africa.

And perhaps the biggest secret remains the design. As we already said, Škoda slightly revealed it with the official sketch, but it did not reveal much. Nevertheless, it served the Indian designer appearing on the Internet as SRK Designs to create a rather believable-looking vision that tries to give the appearance of an important news a little more “tangibly”.

Of course, the designer adopted the horizontal arrangement of the lights from the trailer, and also used the partially exposed bumper. However, he added additional lighting technology and, of course, also elements that are characteristic of the appearance of Škoda cars. We will find out in the coming months how much he hit the car’s appearance.
