The Nothing Phone (2a) gets a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro socket. Nothing’s first two phones still had a Qualcomm Soc. MediaTek has collaborated with Nothing on the custom SoC, which, among other things, must be more energy efficient than the regular 7200 SoC.

The modified SoC is up to ten percent more energy efficient than the regular Dimensity 7200 SoC, Nothing founder Carl Pei tells Digital Trends. This gives the phone features that should provide up to three times faster UFS speeds when used over a longer period of time. The phone should also be able to write files to Windows PCs twice as fast. The Phone 2a is said to be 18 percent more powerful than the Phone 1 while using 16 percent less energy.

According to Pei, the Phone 2a is made for people who are ‘less interested in the latest specs and more interested in performance’. Furthermore, Nothing reports that the phone will have 12GB of memory. The company will present the smartphone on March 5. It will be Nothing’s first cheaper smartphone. Smartprix published OnLeaks renders of the smartphone on Tuesday and claims that the device will have a 6.7″ AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, two rear cameras and a 5000mAh battery.
