Man Charged with Drug, Driving and Theft Offences After Dog Shot by Police
A 35-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences, including drug possession and driving with an expired license, after his dog was shot by police in Moama, New South Wales, following an alleged attack on a three-year-old child.The incident occurred at the Moama skate park on Friday afternoon.
Dog Attack and Police Response
According to New south Wales Police,a large dog escaped from a parked ute and attacked a three-year-old boy at the skate park. Officers from the Murray River Police District, along with members of the public, intervened to separate the child and the dog.When the dog continued to display aggressive behavior,a senior constable discharged a firearm,injuring the animal. Police allege the dog’s owner then transported the injured animal back to his vehicle and left the scene. The child was taken to Echuca Hospital for treatment and has as been discharged.
Charges Laid Against Dog Owner
Approximately an hour and a half after the initial incident, police intercepted the 35-year-old man on the same street.During a search of his vehicle, officers discovered cannabis and over $92,000 in cash. Further examination revealed that the man’s South Australian driver’s license had expired 12 years prior.
He was later charged with nine offences, including possessing and supplying a prohibited drug, and recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime. He appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to reappear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday. The guardian
