Though, a blanket condemnation ⁢based on the NOVA classification ⁢system – a widely used method grouping foods by processing extent⁢ – is a blunt instrument that risks‍ oversimplification and possibly counterproductive policies.

Our team at the University of Leeds⁤ has been investigating the⁣ complex interplay between food characteristics, perceptions, and eating behavior. The message that all UPFs are “bad” is a dangerous oversimplification. People don’t make food choices based⁣ solely on labels. They consider taste, how the food makes them feel, and how it aligns with their health, social, and emotional goals.
