The enclave’s civil defense rescue teams claim to have recovered almost 400 bodies from the compound in Jan Yunisfrom where Israeli troops withdrew in early April after four months of fighting.

Erika Guevara Rosas, general director of Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns of International Amnestystressed the urgency “of ensuring immediate access of independent human rights investigative teams, including forensic experts, to the occupied Gaza Strip to ensure the preservation of evidence.”

In turn, Guevara urged independent and transparent investigations to be carried out “with the aim of guaranteeing accountability for any violation of international law that has been committed.”

“Stripped of their clothes and with their hands tied”

In conversation with BioBioChilethe ambassador of Palestine in Chile, Vera Babounmentioned that they have received reports that some of the corpses still had their urinary catheter or splints.

“There were bodies stripped of their clothes and also with their hands tied, so we are talking about a really very gloomy scenario,” he said.

“We have murdered bodies, mutilated bodies; “an incredibly unacceptable situation that the bodies were in,” said Baboun, adding that a transparent investigation is urgently needed.

“The situation in which the bodies were found reflects a level of hatred executed upon them that humanity has not seen. To be honest with you, it’s incredible,” she said.

In that sense, the Palestinian representative indicates that it depends on Israel whether international journalists and researchers can enter the enclave.

“Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has also reported in Geneva that, apparently, the victims have been buried very deep and covered in waste,” he explained.

“It has even been commented, and I hope it will also be investigated, that some bodies were recorded with the tapes that the Israeli army uses when it detains people,” he launched, demanding the work of an investigation team.

“Because we are not just talking about mass graves in the Naser hospital, but we are talking about other mass graves in the Al Shifa hospital,” he added.

“We are talking about hospitals, and hospitals are supposed to be the most protected”said Baboun. “As I have described to you, the hands were tied, the bodies were dismembered, the heads were decapitated; “It is totally unacceptable,” he said.

“Everyone is around the Naser hospital trying to find their lost relatives,” the diplomat continued, alluding in detail to “the smell of death” that those searching for their loved ones must face.

“This will stick with you until the end of your life, it will be part of your DNA. Because it is not just your mother, brother or your husband, but the scene and the smell cling to you,” she warned.

“We never imagined that this catastrophe would occur. But yes, we need an immediate investigation. And an immediate ceasefire (…) The Palestinians are, like everyone, part of humanity,” he concluded.

Ambassador Artzyeli: “Palestinians and Hamas have no problem lying”

The Israeli ambassador in Chile, Gil Artzyelihas a diametrically opposite view of what happened, stating that the graves were dug in recent months by the own Gazan citizens.

“Any attempt to blame Israel for burying civilians in mass graves is categorically false and is a mere example of a disinformation campaign aimed at delegitimizing Israel,” he said.

In dialogue with BioBioChilethe Israeli representative in our country mentions the concept of Pallywood, which unites the words Palestine and Hollywood.

“They invent, lie and take photographs. There is endless documentation of martyrs and living dead,” the ambassador attacked. “They invent things all the time to try to delegitimize Israel. This is an example and there are worse ones,” he emphasized.

“Sometimes you see dead people moving, you see bags that are not with bodies. Look what happened at Al-Ahli hospital in the first month of the war. They said there were 500 dead in this hospital in Gaza from Israeli bombings. In the end there were not 500 but five, and they did not die from any Israeli bombing but from Islamic Jihad bombings. And again, in this case we also had the evidence because there were cameras that filmed how the rocket deviated and fell on the hospital,” he said.

“We don’t lie, it takes us time to find out and check the facts and sometimes we are wrong. Sometimes we do things against our will, from killing hostages that we do not identify, or like what happened to the people of World Central Kitchen, which was our mistake and we recognized it, we do not blame the Palestinians. The Palestinians and Hamas have no problem lying immediately,” he assured.

In this sense, Artzyeli declared that he was in front of “to a propaganda machine that has no problem lying.”

“Hamas even has an interest in its own population suffering to film it, so much of the Palestinian suffering for food, water, and medicine is not due to a shortage of humanitarian aid in Gaza. There is a lot but what happens is that Hamas takes over the support,” he said. “The situation in Gaza is tremendous, it is tough, but we have no interest in harming the civilian population,” he said.

“Let (the UN) investigate any organization they consider, I only hope that those they name are correct and credible people, because even in the UN there are people who work for Hamas. Like in UNRWA, where hundreds of its UNRWA-funded members participated in the October 7 attacks,” he concluded.
