Rangers Shuffle Lines, Face Avalanche in Search of Offensive Spark
New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette made important adjustments to his forward lines ahead of Thursday night’s matchup against the Colorado Avalanche, signaling a desire to reignite offensive production from key players. Laviolette openly acknowledged the changes were made “offensively,” specifically targeting the performance of Mika Zibanejad and J.T.Miller.
He believes a shift in personnel could help these stars rediscover their top form. “Sometimes, to effect a little bit of change from a personnel standpoint can help those guys capture their best games,” Laviolette explained, aiming for “more consistent threats” across the top six forwards.
A Season of Lineup Experimentation
This season has been marked by considerable experimentation with the Rangers’ top line. Remarkably, eight different players have skated on the first line, including promising rookie Gabe Perreault.
Perreault enjoyed three NHL appearances alongside Zibanejad and Miller before being reassigned to Hartford. While panarin, Zibanejad, Miller, and Alexis Lafrenière have seen the most consistent time together, will Cuylle, Taylor Raddysh, and Conor Sheary have also received opportunities on that crucial wing position.
Borgen Remains Sidelined, Scratches Announced
Sadly, defenseman Will Borgen was unavailable for the game against the Avalanche due to a recurring upper-body injury.This is the same injury that kept him out of the lineup on November 15th and 16th.
Laviolette indicated the team will need to carefully “manage accordingly” Borgen’s condition moving forward. Juuso Parssinen and Urho Vaakanainen were declared healthy scratches for the contest. Parssinen has been a healthy scratch nine times this season, while Vaakanainen has spent eight games as a spectator, including six as a healthy scratch and two due to a lower-body injury.
Shesterkin Faces Tough Night
Despite a strong effort, Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin suffered his eighth loss of the season. He stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced against a potent Avalanche attack.
