Markéta Pekarová Adamová’s position at the head of TOP 09 is in danger. After the unsuccessful exchange of Minister Helena Langšádlová (TOP 09) with the former rector of the University of Opava, Pavel Tuleja (TOP 09), who gave up the nomination due to doubts about his scientific works, some party members are starting to run out of patience. An extraordinary electoral assembly and a change of party leader are said to be at stake.
The president of TOP 09, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, is now experiencing perhaps the most difficult moment in her political career after the failed exchange of ministers. According to some members of the party, the events surrounding the post of Minister for Science, Research and Innovation are damaging the party, so they want to discuss the matter.
“I am convening the regional committee, it is one of the things we will deal with. Next, we will deal with whether the president should accept any responsibility. And now the question is what. Some regions already have a resolution to convene an extraordinary electoral assembly,” said Jana Valentová , head of Mladá Boleslav TOP 09.
On the side of the dismissed minister Langšádlová, who, according to Pekarová Adamová, did not manage the presentation, is not only the Central Bohemian cell, where the minister comes from, but also the Karlovy Vary regional organization.
“Thank you for your work and commitment. I’m only sorry that hard work is less important than circus talent at this time. Our country needs a job well done more than a variety show. Hopefully it will all happen soon,” he wrote on the social network X Karlovy Vary regional chairman Lukáš Otys.
Langšádlová also has the support of the head of the TOP 09 parliamentary club, Jan Jakob, who himself, after four years in the narrow leadership of the party, did not defend his position at the November Diet at the expense of almost unknown members with whom Markéta Pekarová Adamová has newly surrounded herself. After all, the name of Pavel Tuleja is said to have been heard by long-time party members for the first time only from the media. “I myself heard the name of my colleague Tuleja on TV, I don’t know the man,” Valentová remarked.
“It is quite obvious that this is not a completely happy situation. TOP 09 is a liberal-conservative party, one of the typical signs of conservatism is that if I am not convinced that the change will lead to the better, then it is better not to make the change,” pointed out political scientist Ladislav Cabada .
At the same time, the party’s support among the people has been weakening for a long time, according to the April election model, it would not even reach the five percent threshold, which is necessary to enter the Chamber of Deputies.
