A palpable excitement is building in Fremantle as the city prepares to welcome a world-class sporting spectacle to its shores.
The Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix will make its highly anticipated debut in Fremantle on January 17-18, 2026. This event will launch the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship season, showcasing national teams as they compete on cutting-edge 50-foot foiling catamarans, reaching speeds exceeding 100km/h just a stone’s throw from Bathers Beach.
Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver has confirmed that preparations for an unforgettable experience have been meticulously underway for months.
“Tourism WA, instrumental in securing this prestigious event for Western Australia, has collaborated with crucial partners like Fremantle Ports and the Department of Transport, alongside the City, to maximize this remarkable opportunity for Fremantle,” stated Mayor Lawver.
“Since the initial declaration in April of last year, important collaborative efforts with SailGP organizers have been dedicated to realizing this impressive event.”
Over the following week and a half, Fremantle will anticipate the arrival of thousands of competitors, support personnel, and enthusiastic spectators.
Mayor Lawver is actively encouraging both residents and visitors intending to travel to the city center during the event weekend to prioritize alternative transportation options over personal vehicles.
“We request that everyone consult the detailed event information available on the City’s website to effectively plan their weekend and embrace public or active transport whenever feasible.
“Whether you’ve secured tickets, are immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the bars and pubs hosting watch parties, be prepared for increased congestion and allow extra travel time.
