The new exhibition features West military equipmentwhich the Russian army seized in Ukraine.
The Husky tactical support vehicle of the British Army, which was donated to Ukraine, can also be seen there. Its windshield has been shot through, the BBC’s Moscow correspondent Steve Rosenberg reports.
Also visible are Western tanks that were handed over to the Ukrainian armed forces. Among them is an American “Abrams” tank damaged on the battlefield. The German tank “Leopard” is also displayed.
Above the German armored vehicles is the inscription: “History repeats itself.”
Rosenberg points out that the Russian authorities want the local public to think that the war in Ukraine and the Second World War have a common denominator: “Russia is a victim attacked by foreign enemies.” It should be noted that the two wars are completely different.
The exhibition has aroused great interest among Russians. Many pose in front of tanks captured by the occupiers.
Rosenberg believes that one of the goals of this exhibition is to strengthen the Kremlin’s narrative that in Ukraine NATO – and the West in general – is at war against Russia. The goal is to further demonize the West in the minds of Russians. Although clearly Russia was the one that invaded Ukraine, which Western leaders urged Moscow not to do.
The BBC reports that Russia’s main message is written on a large sign next to the war trophies. It says cynically: “Our victory is inevitable.”
