Abu Dhabi witnessed a dramatic end to the 2025 Formula 1 season, with Lando Norris securing his maiden World Championship despite a spirited drive from teammate Oscar Piastri, who claimed victory in the race itself. The McLaren duo delivered a captivating display of skill and sportsmanship, ultimately crowning Norris champion by a mere two points.
The race began with a bold move from Piastri, the 24-year-old Australian executing a stunning overtake on Norris at Turn 9, instantly injecting excitement into the championship decider. Verstappen’s dominant 1456-day reign as champion concluded in a nail-biting finish.
Norris, finishing a strong third ahead of a hard-charging Charles Leclerc, navigated the pressure with composure, capitalizing on a season of consistent performance. The result cemented McLaren’s position as a force to be reckoned with and validated their controversial, yet ultimately prosperous, “papaya rules” philosophy - allowing both drivers to compete fiercely but fairly. Piastri’s aggressive yet clean overtake on Norris perfectly encapsulated the spirit of their internal battle.
