A mathematics teacher from a private high school in Montérégie admitted to having lured what he thought was a teenage girl and did not hesitate to use the school’s internet network to do so.
Gilles Croteau thought he was chatting with a 14-year-old girl on a chat system. But behind the screen, he was more of a police officer.
The mathematics teacher pleaded guilty this morning, at the Longueuil courthouse, to a charge of luring a child with the aim of committing sexual offenses. The content of the online discussion has been placed under seal, preventing us from revealing its content.

Before his arrest, Croteau taught secondary school at Collège Trinité, located in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. He sometimes used the school’s internet network to commit his crime.
The 59-year-old man was arrested in January 2023 during a major raid by the Sûreté du Québec in connection with child pornography. At that time, more than 275 police officers had handcuffed 31 individuals.
