Porsche is bringing back a manual transmission for the 2027 911 Carrera S, responding to overwhelming customer demand in North America. The stick-shift sports car pairs a 473-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six with a six-speed gearbox, center-locking wheels, and a starting price of $169,450 for the coupe.
Manual transmission lovers have fresh reason to celebrate as Porsche brings back the classic six-speed to its popular sports car. Responding to what the company describes as overwhelming customer demand,
the German automaker is introducing a dedicated MT Package for the model year 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S.
The announcement arrived during Monterey Car Week, reversing a broader industry trend where competitors are steadily abandoning three-pedal gearboxes in favor of automatics.
Performance Specs and the MT Package Hardware
The stick-shift setup is far more than just a base Carrera S with an extra pedal on the floor. Under the rear decklid sits a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine pumping out 473 horsepower. Power routes exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission shared with the 911 Carrera T.
Opting for the MT Package also unlocks a substantial list of standard hardware designed to sharpen handling and driver feedback. Equipment includes rear-axle steering, the Sport Chrono Package, unique exhaust tuning, and Porsche Active Suspension Management Sport. The suspension setup lowers the vehicle by 10 millimeters, or roughly 0.4 inch.
For the first time on a Carrera S, center-locking wheels come fitted as standard equipment. These lightweight wheels save more than 17 pounds compared to standard Carrera S rims. Despite the extensive hardware upgrades, the manual coupe tips the scales at 3,327 pounds—making it just 11 pounds heavier than a Carrera T coupe.
Pricing, Options, and Availability Across North America
The revival of the stick shift comes with a significant price tag. The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with the manual package starts at $169,450 for the coupe, which includes a $2,350 destination fee. Choosing the open-air Cabriolet pushes the starting price to $183,350 with destination included.
While the package adds more than $10,000 to the cost of the car, it delivers a discount of roughly 5 percent compared to the PDK automatic variant when factoring in the bundled hardware. Braking duties are handled up front by six-piston calipers biting into 16.1-inch discs, paired with four-piston calipers and 15-inch discs in the rear. Buyers can also upgrade to Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes.
Interior Customization and Distinctive Styling Details
Inside the cabin, drivers find a traditional walnut shift knob alongside a dashboard graphic depicting the manual shift pattern. Four-way Sport Seats Plus come standard, with options ranging up to 18-way Sport Seats Plus or carbon-fiber folding lightweight buckets.
Porsche offers extensive personalization through more than 17 exterior paint options and the Paint to Sample programs. A dedicated appearance package adds black HD-Matrix Design headlights with white accent rings, Ceramica-finished wheels, red rear “S” badges, and body-color mirror housings. The puddle lights even project the six-speed shift pattern onto the ground.
Order books are open now across North America, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.
