WALL – President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the USA has been postponed.

Making a statement on the subject, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated that President Erdoğan’s planned visit to the USA on May 9 was postponed to a date that would be convenient for both parties due to incompatible schedules.

Keçeli said that high-level dialogue between Türkiye and the USA will continue.

What happened?

A statement was made yesterday by the US administration regarding President Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the USA on May 9, which was allegedly cancelled. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby was asked about Erdogan’s visit to the White House on the plane with US President Biden on the way to New York. “There’s nothing programmed,” Kirby replied.

Accordingly, a journalist told Kirby, “President Erdogan is expected to visit the White House in two weeks. Erdoğan hosted the Hamas leader last Saturday. Will this be the subject of negotiations? Or will it overshadow the visit? He posed the question. In his response, Kirby said, “There is nothing scheduled regarding President Erdogan’s visit. Therefore, I have no comment on this issue,” he said.

Stating that he would “leave it to Erdoğan to talk about his meetings,” the White House National Security Communications Advisor said, “We have been very clear about our stance on Hamas, who they are and what they represent. “I leave this issue here,” he said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniye had a closed-door meeting last Saturday.
