Red Panda Announces Return to the Court After Wrist Injury
Months after a concerning fall during a WNBA game, beloved unicycle performer Rong Niu - known to fans as Red Panda – is sharing encouraging news with her supporters. She is planning a return to performing at basketball games.
Niu sustained a significant wrist injury in July while performing her signature act at an Indiana Fever-Minnesota Lynx game. She fell from her seven-foot unicycle while balancing bowls on her head, a routine that has captivated audiences nationwide. The injury necessitated surgery and unfortunately ended her WNBA season prematurely.
A Road to Recovery & Anticipated Comeback
On Sunday, her agency announced Niu anticipates returning to the court during the 2025-26 men’s and women’s college basketball and NBA seasons. Remarkably, she has already resumed practicing and diligently preparing for her comeback.
“We are sending out this note to thank everyone for their heartfelt wishes to Red Panda for a speedy recovery from her fall,” stated her agent, Pat Figley, in a recent memo. “It was a very serious injury and she did require surgery. She appreciated all the sincere follow-up,which was amazing and very touching.”
Niu deeply values the outpouring of support she received throughout her recovery. She is progressing well and eager to once again entertain fans.
A Halftime Staple Ready to Roll

Figley indicated that Niu doesn’t have a firm return date set.However, she is on schedule to make her comeback in the coming months.
“She is healing,” he confirmed.
