Geneva, January 28, 2026 – In a demonstration of interfaith solidarity amidst escalating global geopolitical tensions, leaders from Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, adn Buddhist traditions convened in Geneva today to issue a joint call for peace. The event took place at the Church of Saint Nicholas of Flüe, temporarily secularized for the occasion, and was organized by the Holy See’s Mission in Geneva.
Interfaith Leaders Unite for Peace
Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, led the call for peace, referencing recent appeals by Pope Leo XIV.He emphasized the need for continued efforts towards peace, even when it seems fragile or unattainable.”In a world marked by conflicts, growing fragmentation, and the dangerous idea that war is an certain tool for politics, the recent appeals of Pope Leo XIV for peace demand that all of us, without exception, continue the struggle for peace, though fragile, distant, or unrealistic it may seem,” Cardinal pizzaballa stated.
Joining Cardinal Pizzaballa were key figures including maxime Photos, the principal representative of the Orthodox Church in Switzerland, and Chantal Eberlé, president of the Protestant Church of Geneva. Representatives from other faiths also participated, including Rabbi François Garaï,
