Remedy Entertainment Remedy has consolidated and purchased the full rights to its own Control franchise. The Finnish developer is currently in the process of creating a sequel and spinoff multiplayer project (Codename Condor) set in the Control universe, and has now entered into an agreement with 505 Games which means that Control is fully owned and controlled by Remedy self.

The transaction amounts to 17 million euros, which is said to be equivalent to the costs 505 paid for the development of Control 2 and Codename Condor, plus a smaller premium. Remedy is expected to pay the transaction fee in three installments over the next 12 months.

As for the fine print of the deal, 505 will continue to serve as the publisher of the original Control until December 31, 2024, and 505 will continue to manage existing B2B deals for the first game until the agreed expiration dates. After this, Remedy will handle all of these elements, and 505 will not receive any royalties or other rights to the game.

Remedy505 CEO Tero Virtala states that Control has shipped over four million units and generated shareable revenue of around 100 million euros since its debut in 2017. Virtala also adds:

“Having full ownership of the Control series gives us the freedom to decide the best way forward. We will consider the options carefully, knowing that Control is considered an attractive franchise by many partners. Condor and Control 2 have both made good progress in in recent months, and we expect these projects to reach the next stages of development during the first half of 2024. Development of Condor and Control 2 will continue as normal as we evaluate the best publication, distribution and financing model for these projects.”
