Renault will continue to offer internal combustion vehicles alongside a range of fully electric cars for the next 10 years. According to what the manager of the French car manufacturer says Fabrice Cambolivethe strategy is to have “two legs” in every segment, offering both endothermic and electric models.

Our strategy is to have “two legs” in each segment: a range of cars with internal combustion engines and hybrid technology and a fully electric vehicle.

The manager, speaking with Automotive News Europe at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, therefore explained better what Renault’s strategy will be in the coming years. The CEO of the Renault Group, Luca de Meo, at the beginning of 2022 he stated that the Renault brand would only sell electric vehicles in Europe by 2030, ahead of the 2035 endothermic ban wanted by the European Union. All, however, only if market conditions had permitted it.

Demand for electric cars remains relatively high, although there has been a slowdown in recent months. This has led some car manufacturers to review their electrification strategies, as we have seen several times in recent times with Mercedesfor example, which has revised its electric sales targets downwards for 2030.

Given the market trend, Renault has therefore decided to continue this “two-legged strategy” as Cambolive defined it, to offer customers a double alternative for the next 10 years. The French brand is building its range to have fully electric offerings in every segment, with the small Renault 5 recently unveiled.

Cambolive added that Renault’s chosen approach delivers a lot of flexibility to adapt to market conditions.

For me the issue is not to switch to electric vehicles in 2030. We will follow the trends with two very competitive offers in our range and this strategy could work for the next 10 years.
