Companies benefit from AI-powered sandboxing and additional protection against spam and phishing

Retarus extends protection for all email security customers, the functions of the Retarus Advanced Threat Protection to use. A new AI-supported sandboxing solution now ensures even more effective detection of complex zero day exploits. In addition, an additional anti-spam engine protects companies even better against attempted fraud through phishing. In addition to risky links, this also filters out suspicious image files such as QR codes from emails.
Sandboxing involves running potentially malicious attachments in a virtual, isolated test environment and checking for unusual behavior. Retarus Email Security’s innovative sandboxing technology identifies complex zero-day threats and new malware variants even more reliably thanks to state-of-the-art machine learning, neural networks and behavioral analytics. Among other things, Office, HTML and archive files are executed. In addition, Retarus customers continue to benefit from the insights of a global, external “threat intelligence” network without sharing their own data with third parties.
When malware is found, Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) and extensive reporting provide the customer with detailed forensic information about the type of attack and the methods used. With sandboxing, as with all other email security services from Retarus, data processing is always carried out in accordance with the GDPR in ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified data centers in Europe. All data is transmitted encrypted and deleted immediately after execution in the sandbox environment.
Ward off spam and phishing attacks more specifically
In addition, Retarus is also expanding the detection mechanisms for spam and phishing and is now offering all customers an additional anti-spam engine as part of Advanced Threat Protection, which is based on numerous filters and algorithms and is constantly updated via cloud databases. The new anti-spam detection works language-independently and not only identifies dangerous links, but also analyzes them within QR codes. Logos and other image files are also compared in order to identify phishing attempts at an early stage. Text recognition within file attachments such as PDF documents or HTML forms as well as the analysis of ZIP archive files have been further improved.
In addition, the new anti-spam engine, based on machine learning models and special heuristics, will in future recognize even better disguised senders – regardless of whether they are hidden in the header or in the body of the email. With all filter mechanisms, only selected features are extracted and hashed. The actual content of the email remains unaffected. This ensures that strict data protection and compliance requirements are reliably adhered to at all times.
