The latest season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (RHOSLC) has been rife with conflict, shifting loyalties, and unforgettable moments. Among the most talked-about dynamics has been the unexpectedly strong bond between Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks, despite a previously fractured relationship. Fellow cast member Angie Katsanevas recently shed light on this alliance, alongside recounting a rather embarrassing incident during the cast’s trip to Greece.
Decoding the Barlow-Marks Alliance
throughout the season, viewers observed Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks consistently defending one another, frequently enough amidst a storm of accusations and drama. This raised eyebrows, considering their history of disagreements. Angie Katsanevas, in an interview on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters live, addressed the question on many fans’ minds: what fueled this sudden solidarity?
“What happened between Lisa and Meredith that made them link arms so strongly towards the back half of the season?” the host inquired.
Katsanevas speculated that the shared experience of feeling targeted by the rest of the group may have played a role. “Originally, I just kind of [questioned], are they doing this just as they felt like everyone was against them?” she explained. However, she also acknowledged the pre-existing history between the two women. ”But look, they have history, obviously. And during tough times, you know, Heather and I went to high school together, and we went through a rough patch. But we came back together because we have history. So I guess we just have to acknowledge that they’ve got that history and they were able to move forward from some really dark moments.”
Katsanevas further suggested that Barlow and Marks may have initially approached the season as “allies,” a strategic move that ultimately blossomed into a genuine connection. “That’s just kind of how I felt. Like, how can they really move on from all these things?” she pondered.”But, you know, they stayed true to each other. And I guess thank God they did, because I think it did feel [like] those two against the world at the finale.”
A Greek Hospitality Hiccup
The season also featured a notably heated confrontation between the cast members during a trip to Greece, the homeland of Angie Katsanevas. The argument escalated to the point were the group was asked to leave a restaurant by a staff member who claimed it was closing time.
Katsanevas, understandably, found the situation mortifying. “I mean, nobody gets kicked out of a restaurant in Greece,” she stated, emphasizing the cultural significance of hospitality in Greece. She described the restaurant employee as “patient” and “kind,” but nonetheless, the experience was embarrassing.
She explained that passionate discussions are commonplace in Greek culture, often mistaken for arguments by outsiders. “Greeks talk, [and it sounds like] fighting because they’re passionate. People would always say, well, why are they mad? Why? [My daughter would] say, why is she yelling? And I’m like, honey, that’s just how Aunt Kal and Aunt Rula and Aunt Rita talk. They’re just excited. They’re passionate.”
Despite the cultural norms, Katsanevas admitted the abrupt request to leave was unexpected. “So Greeks are used to that.And they’re open all night long,” she said. “Greece does not close. So us getting kicked out was, like, a little embarrassing … And I just said, ‘Can we just have one more minute?’ He said, ‘No, ma’am, you must go. You get yoru things and leave. Good night. Thank you for coming.’ It was like, oh, my gosh, this is so embarrassing.”
