Wayne Newton to be the Subject of New Documentary by ‘The Zombies’ Director
A new documentary focusing on the life and career of Las vegas icon Wayne Newton is in the works. the project comes from the director behind the critically acclaimed 2023 documentary, Hung Up on a Dream: The Zombies Documentary.
This announcement was made during a Q&A session following a screening of the Zombies film at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Newton’s enduring legacy and remarkable story are set to be explored in detail.
A Lifetime on Stage
Newton, now 83, began his performing journey alongside his brother jerry as a teenager in Las Vegas. He has since delivered an estimated tens of thousands of performances in the city and continues to perform today.
Born in Virginia and raised in Arizona, Newton received a notable boost early in his career. Bobby Darin generously offered him the song “Danke schoen” in the early 1960s, which afterward reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Beyond the Music
Newton’s success extends beyond his signature hit. He also achieved chart success with “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast” in 1972,peaking at No. 4.

The Zombies’ Continued Success
The announcement of the Newton documentary comes alongside exciting news for fans of The Zombies. A remastered mono version of their 1967 album, odessey and Oracle, will be released on September 26 via Beechwood Park Records.
