Ryan Guzman is returning to 9-1-1 as Eddie Diaz, and writers are hinting at a developing romantic storyline for the character. Guzman recently indicated that Season 9 of the ABC procedural will explore Eddie’s love life following his return to Los Angeles with his son, Christopher.
“We have something in the works, I don’t want to spoil anything,” Guzman shared on Entertainment Tonight. “But, we got something in the works. We’re sprinkling it in there.”
‘Buddie‘ and Potential Romance
The potential for romance has been a significant topic among fans,particularly concerning a relationship between Eddie and Oliver Stark’s character,Buck Buckley. Two seasons after Buck came out as bisexual, the show is acknowledging the strong fan base, often referred to as ‘Buddie’ shippers, who hope to see the two characters together.
Oliver Stark confirmed awareness of the fan support, stating, “Tim Minear, who writes the show, said in an interview a few days ago, he’s actively a fan of the ship of Buddie, and he understands it and roots for it, and doesn’t not like the idea of it, which, I get it as well.” Deadline reported Stark also noted the emotional impact of fan edits and the perceived chemistry between the characters.
