Millions of European User Accounts Exposed in Major Ryde Cyber Attack
An extensive cybersecurity breach at micromobility operator Ryde has potentially compromised approximately 4.5 million user accounts across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Germany.
According to Tobias Balchen, chief executive officer of Ryde, the incident is currently under active investigation by technical specialists. In statements to the Norwegian news agency NTB, Balchen confirmed that the company has not received any financial ransom demands, digital extortion notes, or direct threats from external actors since discovering the breach.
Geographic Distribution Across Four Nations
The vast majority of those potentially impacted reside in Norway, where approximately 1.6 million customer accounts are encompassed within the broader international breach, as reported by broadcaster TV 2.
The breach’s footprint spans four European nations, reflecting the cross-border scale of the modern micro-mobility sector. Norway bears the heaviest share of the incident, with roughly 1.6 million local accounts flagged by operators. Sweden, Finland, and Germany account for the remaining balance of the estimated 4.5 million total exposed profiles.

The security failure stems from an unauthorized external intrusion into Ryde’s digital infrastructure.
Ongoing Investigation and Regulatory Scrutiny
As of press time, Ryde’s incident response team has not identified the specific threat actors responsible for the breach. Balchen noted to NTB that investigators currently hold no concrete indicators pointing toward a specific collective or state-sponsored group.
