San Francisco Educators Prepare for Potential Strike
More than 5,200 members of the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) have voted overwhelmingly – by 97.6% – to authorize a strike . The union represents teachers, nurses, counselors, and psychologists within the San Francisco Unified School District. The core issue driving the potential strike is a demand for increased public education funding to support consistent staffing, special education resources, and stable programs for students.
According to the UESF, the school district has been diverting funds into savings accounts and relying on temporary, contracted staff for crucial roles like psychology and special education . This practice, the union argues, undermines the quality and consistency of support available to students.
the last time San Francisco educators went on strike was in 1979,with the strike lasting seven weeks,according to the union.
