No epidemic, but dengue continues to circulate in fenua. The latest health monitoring bulletin reports 5 new cases reported last week and no new cases this week (as of April 3).

In total, 40 cases of dengue fever were declared, including 22 in Tahiti, 10 in Moorea, 1 in Bora Bora and 1 other in Fakarava. Moorea (10), Rangiroa (6), Bora Bora (1) and Fakarava (1). No new imported cases have been reported, specifies the health monitoring office. No hospitalization either.

The DEN-1 serotype was identified in a new indigenous case. This case could have been contaminated in the Marquesas, Moorea or Tahiti. Dengue 1 and 2 are therefore in circulation even if the DEN-2 setotype predominates. Current monitoring and alert management measures have not been modified. Sequencing carried out by the ILM on 2 DEN-2 samples shows an affinity to a strain circulating in Central America of the “American-Asian” genotype.

Among the confirmed cases residing in Tahiti, 2 of them stayed in Fakarava during the month of March. Just like Rangiroa, Fakarava could become a cluster linked to the same tourist activity, alerting the BVS.

Fakarava has gone into alert phase. The islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and the Rangiroa atoll still are.

Among all cases, 9 cases are under 20 years old. The average age is 38 years old and the median is 40 years old.
