SHOW AT CCESCA – Poopy’s 40 years recounted in music

The trio Njila, Poopy and Mahery met a real musical success here at Ccesca Antanimena.

Musical journey since his 40th birthday. Yesterday at the Ccesca Antanimena, an exceptional musical event lit up the stage, despite the somewhat rainy sky in Antananarivo. Poopy’s “Tantaraiko anao, izaho sy Njila” show, retracing in music his journey with the Njila group, captivated the spectators, who occupied half of the room, in a warm and vibrant atmosphere. Celebrating her 40 years of career on stage, Poopy wanted to share through music the memories of her beginnings in 1983, when she joined Njila.

“My uncle was a musician in Njila. He introduced me to the group, and from that moment, Njila believed in me and welcomed me among them. These were my first steps in the music world, I knew nothing about the artist at that time, and I was the only girl in the group. I even remember wearing a male outfit for my first show, a white shirt, black pants and a black tie, like the members of Njila. The first part of the show was punctuated with laughter, because when Njila saw me in this outfit, he burst out laughing, even though we were in front of the audience,” shares Poopy on stage.

Each song performed was an opportunity for Njila and Poopy to share their highlights, demonstrating that these 40 years have not been without challenges. From the first title until the seventeenth, the trio, composed of Njila, Poopy and Mahery, shared the stage by adapting the first voices to Poopy, the second to Njila and the third to Mahery, performing titles like “Lay Rivotra ”, “Soa ihany”, “Revy”, “Firaisan-kina” and many more. The second part of the show was marked by Poopy’s solo adventure, offering unforgettable performances with titles such as “Tsy ahita”, “Embona”, “Tia”, “Resabe”, among others. The voice of the heart was sublimated by the creations of stylist Irinah Jan, accompanied on stage by talented musicians such as Gérard on electric guitar, Andry on percussion, Tax on drums, Jack Thierry on bass, Naivo on piano and Thierry on keyboards.

The show was punctuated with hilarious anecdotes and playful gestures from Njila, demonstrating his talent as a comedian. “At the time, I only had one pair of pants. When I had to do a show in the afternoon, I would wash these pants in the morning and blow dry them. There were times when I couldn’t attend meetings with the group because I had nothing to wear,” he says with humor.
