The guitar melody of ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ is said to be very similar to that of ‘Hey, it’s Franklin’, but that’s where the similarity ends, according to Cockburn. “I think ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyoncé is a good song. Unfortunately I can’t say I co-wrote it. The rhythm is the same as my intro song for the TV series Franklin, but to me that’s where the similarity ends. ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ is her song and I wish her the best of luck with it.”

Franklin is a Canadian TV series for children about a turtle who experiences all kinds of adventures with his forest friends. The series came on TV in 1997 when Beyoncé was only sixteen years old. A striking detail is that the co-authors of ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ are all from Canada. Although this according to TMZ is no evidence of plagiarism, the website does say that the writers may have been inspired by the intro song of the animated series.
