From March 1, cigarettes will become more expensive. Higher prices have been in force since January, but until the end of February, tobacco products with last year’s excise tax could be found in stores.
The new regulations require that from March 1, only cigarettes with excise duty paid in 2024 will be available for sale. From Friday, the price for a parcel will increase by at least PLN 1, says “Fakt”.
In 2021, an act was passed that gradually increases excise tax rates. Smokers should get ready for further increases.

“The increase in excise tax rates on smoking tobacco, cigarettes, cigars and cigarillos, starting from 2023, is intended primarily to limit the consumption of the above-mentioned products by consumers, especially by minors. The increase in excise duty on raw tobacco in this period is a consequence of the increase for smoking tobacco – indicated in the justification for the regulations.
New cigarette prices. Additional PLN 37 billion in the budget
The estimates of the Ministry of Finance quoted by the daily show that the price of cigarettes will increase in the following years by: PLN 1.06, PLN 1.15 and PLN 1.24.
The government forecasts that the increase in excise tax rates on cigarettes and alcohol in 2025-2027 will increase the budget by approximately PLN 37 billion.
