Solar Opposites Creators Announce New Animated Series, Odd Jobs, for Amazon Prime Video
Following the cancellation of Solar Opposites,fans have a reason for optimism: creators Dominic Dierkes and Mike McMahan are bringing a new animated series,Odd Jobs,to Amazon Prime Video. The show promises a darkly comedic look at the gig economy in a dystopian future.
Variety reports that Odd Jobs is set in 2127, depicting a world consumed by late-stage capitalism. The series will follow a team of reluctant gig workers completing bizarre and dangerous tasks assigned through the “ODD JOBS” app.
In a statement, Dierkes and McMahan-both of whom worked on Solar Opposites, with McMahan also known for Star Trek: Lower Decks and Rick and Morty-explained the show’s origins. “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” they saeid. “We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”
Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon MGM Studios, described Odd Jobs as “sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is indeed entertaining.”
Details regarding the voice cast and release date for Odd Jobs have not yet been announced. However, given the creative team’s track record, anticipation is high for this new series.
