South African court rejects action against former president Zuma’s party –

This Monday, the 22nd, the South African court rejected the action against the party of former president Zuma, in power since 1994, in South Africa.

In this regard, the High Court of KwaZulu-Natal, in the port city of Durban, rejected the ANC’s allegations that the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) “illegally” used the same name and logo as its former armed wing uMkhonto we Sizwe [‘A Lança da Nação’, em língua Zulu]known since its founding in 1961 as ‘MK’, the South African press reported today.

ANC provincial spokesperson Mafika Mndebele told the press that the ruling party will appeal the court’s decision.

In March, the ANC lost another court case in an attempt to outlaw the political party of former president Jacob Zuma, a candidate in the general elections on 29 May.

With about a month to go before the general elections, the MKP party has emerged as a strong rival to the ANC, which continues to decline with a new poll predicting just 37% of the vote in the next elections.
