The stage is set for a captivating theatrical experiance with the upcoming production of “The Adventures of Castelmore,” a vibrant show blending storytelling with the innovative manganette
technique. This unique performance, combining manga aesthetics with the charm of marionettes, promises an engaging adventure for audiences of all ages.
A Fresh Take on Classic Adventure
This production, running for just two evenings – January 19th and 20th – offers a dynamic narrative spanning 23 minutes. Its a testament to the power of collaborative storytelling, and I’ve found that these shorter, focused performances often leave a lasting impression on viewers. The manganette
style, previously explored by the company, adds a distinctive visual layer to the unfolding story.

Beyond the excitement of the adventure itself, “The Adventures of Castelmore” delves into important contemporary themes. You’ll discover explorations of solidarity, fairness, loyalty, and the strength found in collective action. The script was skillfully crafted by Sylvain Levey, a highly respected author in the world of youth literature and contemporary theatre.
What is “Manganette?”
The manganette
technique is a fascinating hybrid art form. It seamlessly integrates the visual style of Japanese manga with the customary art of puppetry. This creates a visually striking and uniquely engaging performance experience. It’s a technique that allows for a level of expressiveness and dynamism that’s truly special.
Deep roots in Lot-et-Garonne
The premiere of this production in Villeneuve-sur-Lot is a direct result of a strong partnership with the Espace Georges-Leygues. They are not only hosting the show but also co-producing it, and recently took over management of the Théâtre Roger-Louret. This collaboration highlights the importance of local support for the arts. Moreover, the company maintains close ties with other cultural institutions in the lot-et-Garonne department, including the Théâtre du Courneau in Agen and the Théâtre Comédia in Marmande, where they served as artists in residence for two seasons.
To further enrich the experience, educational workshops centered around the manganette
technique will be offered to students in local middle and high schools. These workshops will be accompanied by educational materials that explore the concept of classic literature and the art of adaptation. Following the initial run, the company plans to embark on a tour throughout nouvelle-Aquitaine and across France, beginning in the 2026-2027 season.
