The situation of Mirafiori plant more and more delicate. Stellantis has indeed communicated to the unions that theProduction activity at the Mirafiori body shop will be suspended throughout May. As we know, the redundancy fund for employees of this production plant where the electric 500 and Maserati are built it has been going on now since the beginning of March.

The workers were supposed to resume normal activities at the beginning of May (the 7th to be precise) but the company decided differently, announcing the stop in production for the whole of May. Activities are expected to resume on June 3.

The extension of the redundancy fund in Mirafiori would be linked to cooling of electricity demandand due to the continuation of theabsence of incentives in various European marketsin particular in Italy where the new Ecobonus was announced in February but has not yet come into force.

The unions are very concerned about the Mirafiori situation and continue to ask for the arrival of a new model to guarantee the future of this plant. Edi Lazzigeneral secretary of the Fiom CGIL of Turin, e Gianni Mannoriresponsible for Mirafiori for Fiom Cgil, comment:

This stoppage of an entire month is yet another slap in the face given to workers and to the city of Turin in general which will see the economic situation worsen with the inevitable repercussions on related industries.

For Lazzi and Mannori, therefore, a diversification of models and ranges is needed so that, if one doesn’t work, it will be compensated by another that is doing better. According to the unions, the closure is also a precise indication that the corollary departments, such as those for the recycling of engine components, for the production of electrified gearboxes and for battery testing are not crucial to the relaunch of Mirafiori.
