Stephen King and Sam Raimi have joined forces to bring King’s 2001 novel, Desperation, to the big screen. The project is currently in early development, marking a rare convergence between two of the most influential figures in modern horror. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Raimi is set to produce the film, while Zach Lipovsky and Adam B.

Trapped in the Nevada Desert

The story follows a group of travelers stranded in a remote Nevada town. Ryan Brennan is currently attached to pen the screenplay.

Aligning Two Masters of Dread

This collaboration unites two distinct creative legacies. King’s bibliography has underpinned decades of cinematic terror, from The Shining and Carrie to It. Raimi, who cut his teeth on the Evil Dead franchise before moving to the Spider-Man trilogy and producing hits like Don’t Breathe and Crawl, shares King’s penchant for small-town isolation and visceral, grotesque imagery.

The union fulfills a stated ambition for the filmmaker.

From Television to Theatrical Feature

While the novel was previously adapted into a 2006 television film directed by Mick Garris and starring Tom Skerritt, Steven Weber, and Annabeth Gish, this new iteration is being developed specifically for theaters. Raimi is joined on the production team by Robert Tapert. Stein, who recently helmed Final Destination: Bloodlines, are also attached, with Romel Adam and Jose Cañas serving as executive producers.
