Stephen King's Next Horror: Streaming Date & Details on Paramount+

Stephen King has become iconic in the horror genre for books, movies, and TV shows, but the latest adaptation starring Glen Powell has caused a huge divide amongst critics and fans. Now, everyone gets the chance to watch The Running Man as the streaming release date has been revealed.

Paramount+ has revealed that the adaptation of King’s novel The Running Man will be available to stream on January 13. This is the second adaptation of the same novel, following Arnold Schwarzenegger’s unfavorable portrayal of the movie’s main character Ben Richards in 1987. Powell breathes new life into the character, and Edgar Wright, known for Last Night in Soho and Baby Driver, directs.

The Running Man follows Ben Richards as he is desperate to find ways to make money after trying and failing at several jobs. It’s set in a bleak future governed by an authoritarian media conglomerate.

To ensure his daughter receives the care and medicine she needs, Richards enters into a popular but deadly TV program, The Running Man, in which he has to avoid being murdered in a nationwide manhunt in hopes of winning the billion-dollar prize.

The cast is also impressive as it includes names such as William H. Macy (Shameless), Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Michael Cera (Superbad), Emilia Jones (CODA), Daniel Ezra (All American), Jayme Lawson (Sinners), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), and Josh Brolin (Avengers and Weapons).

The Running Man has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 63% compared to its predecessor, which has a 59% rating. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t perform well at the box office, much to everyone’s surprise, and grossed around $69 million globally, failing to reach its $110 million budget. However, when released on VOD (video-on-demand), it topped streaming charts and became one of the top-purchased films on a few platforms.

Powell is also known for his roles in Anyone But You, Twisters, Hit Man, and Top Gun: Maverick, establishing himself as a well-rounded action star. He has several upcoming projects, including the second season of Chad Powers, How to Make a Killing, Ghost Writer, The Natural Order, and a couple of unnamed projects with names such as Judd Apatow and Ron Howard.

The Running Man will release on Paramount+ on January 13 for all paying subscribers to the streaming platform.
